Now more then ever teenagers can utilize the practice of yoga to help them gain more understanding of themselves and their place in the world.

The studio is available from 12 noon until 5pm weekdays and on Saturdays.
We are offering a special program.
If you sign your team up for a special one and a half hour private HOT yoga class with up to 30 people for $300.
The coach can take that class for free and from then on the team’s participants can continue to take regular classes at $12 per child

Why do teens need yoga?

Throughout adolescence, when the body is still growing, and bones, muscles, tendons, and ligaments are changing, stress injuries are common. A quick or energetic body movement can sometimes cause a stress injury to any of these areas. Athletes who do not stretch enough in warming up experience injuries that often could be avoided-such as pulled hamstrings, knee injuries from tight tendons and ligaments, and shoulder, wrist, and ankle injuries from weakness in these areas. By offering a complete body workout, yoga balances out the stresses of any sport and helps correct tightness or weakness.

Stretching before and after a rigorous workout from any sport is recommended.
A yoga class helps teens learn the true physiology of this necessary stretching .

Staying healthy means a lot more to kids today than avoiding a cold. Boys and girls both are concerned about eating well, getting more exercise and managing stress. But teenagers also say they are looking for something to help them make sense of a chaotic world. They find yoga's inner focus a spiritual experience, even if they are not yet prepared to embark on a more mature spiritual practice. They also are looking for tools to help them manage stress. Like adults, contemporary teenagers are goal and achievement oriented, operating under relentless academic pressure and a treacherous adolescent social jungle.

During the experience of yoga practice, teens often develop a clearer attention, better body awareness and a greater sense of self-confidence. By discovering the inner resources within, teens are more equipped to deal with the dynamic & challenging experiences of daily life. One of the noticeable benefits of this practice is the overall well being of physical health. In particular, yoga can be a great support for the maturation of the inner organs and stretching will also reduce common growing pains. Adolescents begin to feel more comfortable within their own skin as they develop physical strength, endurance, and flexibility. This vigorous routine provides teenagers with an alternative way to redirect their energy and offers them a healthy and challenging way to experiment, to push boundaries and thus gain a sense of achievement. No prior yoga experience or athletic experience is required to participate! Pre-registration required.
Internal organs are growing and changing during this period and can become upset with diet changes or over stimulation of nerves. Yoga helps to keep organs healthy despite everyday stresses. It also assists in balancing out the mood swings and eliminating the body aches resulting from the hormonal imbalances experienced during sexual maturing. During this growth period, yoga is useful in easing the tension of tight muscles, tendons, and ligaments, and it can also help to strengthen bones. Certain poses alleviate menstrual cramps, and others work internally on clearing energy blocks that may cause headaches, sinus problems, irritability or digestive problems.

Yoga promotes unification of body and mind, and as you practice, it will increase your awareness and your ability to look within, think for yourself, and trust yourself. The result is that you will feel more peaceful and self-confident during a period of rapid change and be able to engage the world with a more positive outlook.
